The Funiwa Environmental NGO Rig Bank is an environmental and community-focused initiative associated with ENGO Naoko Okada Ventures (RC 9628257), a Nigerian-registered entity incorporated on 23 June 2026 and currently shown as ACTIVE on the Corporate Affairs Commission public-search record.
Located within the broader environmental context of the Funiwa offshore area of Bayelsa State, the initiative is designed to support environmental observation, marine research, ecological protection, community participation and environmental-response coordination.
Our work is centred on the principle that the protection of the Niger Delta environment requires a combination of scientific knowledge, continuous environmental monitoring, responsible institutional cooperation and meaningful participation by coastal communities.

Why Funiwa?
Funiwa has an important place in the environmental history of the Niger Delta.
The area experienced the major Funiwa No. 5 well blowout in 1980, an offshore petroleum incident that resulted in extensive oil release and impacts along the Nigerian coastline. Historical records document effects on coastal and mangrove environments.
The Funiwa Field was also associated with a significant offshore drilling incident in 2012 involving the K.S. Endeavor rig.
This history reinforces the importance of maintaining strong environmental observation, preparedness, scientific research and community engagement in the region.
The Funiwa Environmental NGO Rig Bank is therefore conceived as a platform for strengthening environmental awareness, monitoring and preparedness rather than simply responding after environmental incidents have occurred.

Koluama Community

Community Environmental Observer Programme
One of our proposed programmes is a Community Environmental Observer Programme.
Selected community participants may receive appropriate training in basic environmental observation and reporting.
